University of Leicester Amnesty Society Welcome! UOL Amnesty is part of a network of over one hundred student groups standing up for human rights in universities across the UK. Our Aims: We aim to campaign, raise awareness, and fundraise for the protection of human rights. We change our campaigns year on year depending on the issues that are important to our members. “To deny people their human rights is to challenge their very humanity.” Nelson Mandela, South African civil rights activist Background: Amnesty International is the world’s largest grassroots Human Rights Organisation mobilising people from all around the globe. The University of Leicester Amnesty International Student Division forms a part of a network of Amnesty groups all over the United Kingdom which strives to promote and support Amnesty’s mission of protecting individuals wherever justice, fairness, freedom and truth are denied.
